Other Tel Aviv Events

Jerusalem is the official capital of Israel, this is true. But the true cultural capital is Tel Aviv. Per capita, there are more events taking place here than in New York, London or Berlin. Here is a quick look at some of the options that Tel Aviv has to offer to the tourist who is eager to expand his cultural horizons.

The Tel Aviv Museum, located on Shaoul Hamelech avenue, displays a huge collection of Israeli fine art, as well as an interesting 20th century collection and seasonal exhibitions of contemporary art.

Near the museum, you may find the luxurious Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, home of the Israeli Opera, and the beloved theatre company – the Cameri. There you may enjoy world class opera productions, classical concerts and theatre plays, every night of the week.

Deeper in the heart of the city, where Dizengof street meets Rothschild avenue, lies the ‘Habima’ complex. Habima, which was established in 1918 as the first Hebrew theatre company, is nowadays Israel’s national theater. The Mann auditorium, which is the home of the Israeli philharmonic orchestra, resides also in this cultural complex.

If you are interested in events a little less formal, we advise that you check out what goes on at Tel Aviv Cinematheque this evening. Here you may find up to date films by Israeli directors and from around the world. Occasional film festivals are held there.

Another tip we can give, is to check out the fringe music clubs in the south of Tel Aviv. At the Barby or the Cultura clubs you can enjoy a cold beer at the bar, while listening to the next thing in Israeli rock and pop music. Many successful bands have begun their way there. Another interesting place to meet young and fresh Israeli performers and musicians is the Temuna theatre, located in Shonzino Street.

Finally, we can advise that you inquire upon arrival, about the many outdoor music, food and wine festivals that take place throughout the summer. These events attract tens of thousands visitors. Our personal favorites are ‘Taam Hair’, the food festival, ‘Ir Habira’, a beer and music festival in Charles Clore park, and ‘Opera in the Park’, the Israeli opera performing free of charge at the Yarkon Park.
